Honor Guard
Officially established in the fall of 2013, the Township Fire Department Honor Guard set out to render honor at the funerals of our fallen brothers and sisters; retired, active duty or line of duty. As time went on, the Township Fire Department Honor Guard soon expanded the scope of their duties to include marching in parades and posting Colors at numerous types of events.
The Township Fire Department Honor Guard has also been called upon to help other Departments prepare for, organize, and implement funerals for their fallen members. It has been with great Honor that we have been afforded the opportunity to help other Honor Guards in such a horrible time of need.
Many of the Township Fire Department Honor Guard members are also members of the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial Funeral Guard. This elite group assists in honoring the passing of firefighters and EMS personnel from throughout the State of Wisconsin by attending visitation and funeral services. Members of the Wisconsin State Firefighters Funeral Guard also participate in the Final Alarm Ceremony held in October of each year at the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial Park in Wisconsin Rapids. The Final Alarm is a ceremony conducted to honor those Wisconsin firefighters who paid the ultimate sacrifice and were killed in the Line of Duty.
The members of the Township Fire Department Honor Guard are provided with many opportunities for training during the year. Training sessions are held locally or throughout the state. During training, numerous disciplines are taught: posting of the Colors, posting Guards at a casket, pall bearer duties and flag folding among many others. One philosophy is encouraged above all others no matter where a person receives training, “Take care of the families of the fallen.”
